Buyapowa: Retail Week's 'Start Up of the Week'

Start-up of the week: Online referral and rewards platform Buyapowa

We don't want to boast too much but we are just thrilled to have been chosen by Retail Week as this week's Start Up of the Week.

You will need to subscribe to Retail  Week to read full article online or in the magazine, but here are a few of the highlights we can share with you:

Beneath a picture of Buyapowa's CEO and Founder Gideon Lask (above), the article explains that Buyapowa enables retailers to 'integrate [the Buyapowa Introduce-a-Friend platform] into their existing ecommerce offer'  to incentivise 'brand advocacy for online shoppers'.

The article by Grace Bowden continues that 'as online retail continues to evolve it is necessary for retailers to have a variety of ways for customers to engage with their offer' and that 'Buyapowa simplifies and incentivises sharing retail recommendations for customers whilst simultaneously offering retailers insight into their customers’ shopping habits and drawing attention to brand advocates.'

Quoting Gideon, the article adds that 'with ad-blockers eliminating marketing messages and SEO hanging on the whim of Google’s latest update, Buyapowa brings word of mouth to online retail to increase customer engagement and brand advocacy'

Game over: EE hi-scores with its influencer marketing campaign

If you've been following the blogs, the tweets and the general hubbub that make up the marketing community, you'll have seen a lot of talk about Influencer Marketing recently. Some of it's been wildly theoretical ("uhhh, I think this would happen"), so we reckoned it'd be helpful to share a real life example with you here: the innovative Social Selling campaign which the leading UK telco EE recently ran on the Buyapowa platform.

Why's it such a fascinating example? Well, just take a look at some of the headline stats:

  • 60,000 transactions in just 3.5 weeks
  • An unprecedented level of ‘Fan to Fan’ sharing
  • The top two referrers brought in 801 and 613 other participants respectively

So, how did it work?

To promote its super-fast 4GEE offering to mobile gamers, EE looked to influencer marketing,and enlisted the leading YouTube gaming blogger Alistair Aitken (better known as ‘Ali-A’) to promote a limited edition Ali-A sim card - featuring hundreds of GB of free data - to his fans and followers with tweets and videos like this:
